An old favorite

We have been discussing this book this morning. I think this is the book that actually got me reading for pleasure. Well, since I'm so old there were a few before that, but I'll give that award to this book. You'll find it in the young adult section but totally worth the trip. This book is actually the start of a trilogy, but the reviews are pretty mixed about the later two.

Check it out at the Barrett Memorial Library.

Johnny Depp at his finest

We want to make sure we are the coolest library around, so this year we planned a halloween party for teens. My scary idea, has turned frightening. The tweens are taking over the building, I've created monsters by filling them with sugar. Stop by soon to see the scariest thing, this Halloween at the Barrett Memorial Library.

Twitter Vs. Atwitter

This entry is dedicated to our loyal librarian, Patti. Instead of jumping on the twitter bandwagon, she is solely responsible for bringing back the term "atwitter". The definition is 'full of nervous excitement.' example: We are all atwitter about tomorrow's party. So use it, embrace it, and you are sure to get the same response that we've gotten. oh, I don't do that.

Check this book out, and start to twitter, unless your too atwitter.

Be afraid, be very afraid!

It's safe to say we all have the fever, Flu Fever that is. I dont' mean the high temperature, I'm talking about the headlines. You can't pick up a paper or turn on the news without hearing something about the Swine Flu. With halloween right around the corner, it's not the ghosts and goblins that people are fearing this year, it's the flu. So as halloween gets closer, fear continues to grow and so does the flu's strength.

Check this book out at the Barrett Memorial Library, about the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918, and hope that we will survive!

In a nutshell

Sayings like 'footloose and fancyfree' and 'cry over spilled milk' are pretty common, and most people know what they mean. But do you know what these mean?
-Long in the tooth
-Do an About-face
-Sow Wild Oats
-Come a cropper
-Take a Powder

If you don't know what they mean, I bet you know how to find out.

An Interesting Tale

Audry Niffenegger is a popular girl these days, with her book to movie The Time Traveler's Wife in theatres now. While perusing the shelves for other books by the same auther, we found this one. The beautiful illustrations are also done by the author, but don't let them fool you, this is no kids book. A very interesting book in it's own right, see for yourself at Barrett Memorial Library.

Oh Sookie!

I'll admit I am totally 100% hooked on True Blood. When the first season was over, and yes it's available through the library, I had to satisfy my vampire craving. I am now totally enveloped by the series that inspired the HBO series. Check out the whole Sookie Stackhouse series, sure to get you in the mood for Halloween.
